Welcome!

Welcome to OER@DVC!

This professional development course supports participants in the OER@DVC grant Links to an external site.; a 2021-2022 program for DVC faculty interested in exploring, using, and creating Open Educational Resources (OER) and converting courses to Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC).

Topics of our course include anti-racism, open licensing, finding and using existing OER, creating and adapting resources, and universal design for learning. By the end of our course you will have created a ZTC Action Plan to convert your course from traditional textbooks to ZTC, or to improve your already-existing ZTC course.

Our asynchronous course runs from March 7 – April 24, 2022.

Course objectives

Upon completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Define OER/ZTC
  • Properly identify the Creative Commons (CC) license on a resource and describe how this resource can and cannot be used.
  • Effectively search repositories of open resources for discipline-specific content.
  • Describe the conceptual framework of universal design and the relationship between universal design, equity, and accessibility.
  • Create an open resource by remixing multiple existing resources and designate a license to this new resource.
  • Explore the ways in which OER use intersects with anti-racist pedagogy and equity.
