After reviewing the articles above, there were three takeaways I'd like to point out:
- The poses that were most commonly identified as causing the injuries involved hyperflexion and hyperextension of the spine.
- When doing chaturanga or low push up keep the shoulders at same level as the elbows, the elbows stop at the side of the ribcage and engagement of core is important (arms at 90 degree angle). If you don't have the strength yet to hold this position, modifying on your knees is a great option.
- Keeping the pelvis in alignment with the spine helps reduce sacroiliac pain.
