There are a few short readings this week and each has been selected to initiate thinking about your thinking and writing processes as you move into the curriculum for this class. *I recommend reading the attachments in the following order:
"Unteaching the Five-Paragraph Essay" by Marie Foley: Have you been taught the five-para essay? If so, how has it helped or limited you as a writer and thinker?
As a writer, you must constantly be adapting your writing to the situation. The "Rhetorical Situation" powerpoint provides an overview of considerations to make when you write.
"Brainology" and "Habits of Mind" offer new ways to think about learning. Do you have a "growth mindset"? What "habits" do you want to focus on this semester?
After completing all of the readings, write a 150-200 post that contains your reactions to at least two of the readings. Then, respond to one of your peer's posts (see Discussion Board Guidelines). This activity will help you with the correlating writing assignment.
