Discussion Board: The Role of Literature

As we begin the (short) literature unit, let's start by discussing some open questions about literature. I am not looking for correct answers in this space, per se, but I am looking for you to engage with the assigned readings and convey any insight or questions you have. 

Discussion Board Post: What role does literature play in society? As you answer this question, contemplate and then reference the theoretical works and short stories you read this week. Also, make a connection between one of the short stories and society. Lastly, Tim O'Brien writes about "happening-truth vs. story-truth" -- explain this concept and how it pertains to the role of literature.
