- Mechanical break down of our food into smaller pieces happens in our mouths (chewing) and stomachs (churning).
- There is a little bit of chemical digestion by digestive enzymes along the way, but
- the vast majority of the digestive enzymes are working in the small intestine. T
- hose digestive enzymes were made either in the pancreas or
- in the small intestine itself.
- As if that wasn't enough, the small intestine also does the absorption of small molecules.
