Writing Assignment: Fortune 500- Informational Report due: July 28

 Scenario: You are preparing a targeted resume and cover letter for a Fortune 500 company. You've spoken with a friend who works there, but you now want to do your own research. Choose one company from the Fortune 500 list of companies Links to an external site.. Many of you are probably familiar or have heard the term Fortune 500 company. If you take/have taken other business classes or dabble in investing, then you are most certainly aware of Fortune 500 companies. Basically, this is a list of the top 500 revenue earning corporations in the U.S.

Take notes about your company's information from the Fortune 500 list. Then take a look at the company's website: check its background, news releases, and annual report. Learn about its major product, service or emphasis. Find its Fortune 500 ranking, its current stock price, latest marketing plan, latest product or promotion, identify its home office, major officers and number of employees. You will use all of this information to write your report. Visit informal report examples for ideas.

Complete the following:

• Choose 1 company from the Fortune 500 list to research
• Research the company and find the following:
  • Its Fortune 500 ranking
  • Company background and history
  • Products or services that they sell 
  • Its current stock price (if listed)
  • Latest marketing plan or latest product/service
  • Identify its home office- where are they located?
  • Major officers (company executives) and number of employees
• Write an informational report that addresses all of the company findings above. Give an overview of the company, products/services they sell and other information that you found above. Explain why this company would be a good or bad employment choice for you
• Write in informal report format and structure the report like the following:
  
  • Introduction- introduce the Fortune 500 company that you chose
  • Body paragraphs with appropriate section headings- addressing all of the findings about the company. For example, if you chose Amazon as the Fortune 500 company and you were going to describe their products/services then you would title the section of the report Products/Services and then discuss in the following paragraph(s).
  • Conclusion- Explain why this company would be a good or bad employment choice for you.
• Write two (minimum) - four (maximum) pages in length, single-spaced
• May use existing or create graphics to supplement the report: infographics, charts, graphs, tables- these are to enhance your written text not replace the written text. Written report should still be two (minimum) pages in length.
• Cite your sources in APA format 
• Follow the writing process of an informational (contemporary report) outlined in the reading:
  • Analyze the purpose
  • Anticipate audience (class colleagues)
  • Conduct research
  • Organize information
  • Use informal, informational report formatting
  • Analyze, interpret, and possibly illustrate data (graphs, charts, infographic)
  • Proofread and edit
