Topic- Direct vs. Indirect strategy in Professional Writing
Discussion Directions:
Watch my lecture on direct vs. indirect approach and read the LinkedIn article: Direct and indirect approach in business communication Links to an external site. before responding to the prompt below.
Now that you have learned about direct vs. indirect approach and strategy in your professional writing- the difference between the two approaches, when to use them and how to use them appropriately. The premise is that you should analyze your audience before you even begin writing. Who is your audience? Do you know them? Have you worked with them in the past? Will your audience be receptive, neutral or unreceptive to your message? Asking yourself all of these questions during audience analysis will help you determine whether to use the direct or indirect approach. Ask yourself these questions during the pre-writing phase and then focus the approach you intend to use during the drafting part of writing process.
For your First discussion post (by Monday, July 1) a minimum of 100 words answer: Why is audience analysis so important in the selection of the direct or indirect strategy of organization for a business message? When is direct approach used? When is the indirect approach used? Give an example when each approach should be used.
For your Second discussion post (by Wednesday, July 3): Respond to two other classmates' post with an observation, question, or demonstrate appreciation.
