Welcome to Business Communication! I am delighted that we will be spending the semester together. In this course you will learn about the importance of effective written communication in an organization and how to use these writing skills in your professional life. We'll explore topics such as planning, drafting, organizing and revising business messages, positive, negative and persuasive messages, business plan, report and proposal writing, and more.
Course format: The course is held entirely online, with no mandatory class meetings. This is a 6-week intensive summer session of the course. This means that you will complete the course work at twice the rate of a regular length semester. The course is set up as weekly modules where each week you will: read 2 chapters of material, view recorded lectures, complete a written assignment(s) a grammar assignment and, participate in class discussion. This is the basic course structure, for the full course schedule-read the syllabus/schedule posted below.
Textbook information: The required textbook is: Business Communication; Process & Product, 10th edition, Guffey and Loewy, Cengage publishing, ISBN: 9780357129234
Note: different book formats will have different ISBN numbers. Make sure you buy/rent the 10th edition in any format (hard copy, e-copy, etc.) that you prefer. You only need to buy/rent the textbook, we will not be using any other publisher resources besides the textbook. Here is a link to the textbook purchase options via the publisher’s website:
