Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:00-6:10 pm at Rincon Valley Community Park – 1 Unit

Course Description

Beginning Outdoor Volleyball Description: This activity course is designed to teach basic outdoor volleyball fundamentals and the rules of the game.  Practice and participation in match play and tournament play will be emphasized.

1. Students will be able to play outdoor volleyball at a beginning level
2. Perform the basic skills and demonstrate basic body positioning 
3. Students will be able to understand and apply the written and unwritten rules of play

No Class - 4th of July 

Dropping the Class

If you decide to discontinue this course, it is your responsibility to officially drop it to avoid getting no refund (after 10% of course length), a W symbol (after 20%), or a grade (after 60%). Also, for several consecutive, unexplained absences, the instructor may drop a student.

Pass‐NoPass (P/NP)

You may take this class P/NP. You must decide before the deadline, and add the option online in your portal or file the P/NP form with Admissions and Records. With a grade of C or better, you will get P.

Once you decide to go for P/NP, you cannot change back to a letter grade. If you are taking this course as part of a certificate program, you can probably still take the class P/NP. Check with a counselor to be sure!

I highly recommend that you update your user settings to make sure that you receive the following right away (Click the check mark – notify me right away) for:

  1. Announcement: this is how I will communicate with the entire class 
  2. Submission comment: this is how I will give you personal feedback on your assignments
  3. Conversation message: this is where I send students private messages through Canvas 

Feel free to change the settings on any others based on your personal preferences. 

Class Meetings

We will meet on in-person on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. 

Attendance

Students who fail to attend the first class (face-to-face course) of the semester will be dropped from the class. It is strongly advised that if you need to miss more than one class/homework deadline in a row you contact me to avoid being dropped from the class.

Course Evaluation

Class Participation – 15 x 5 points = 75 points

Class Assignments

  • Rules Demonstration Quiz  - 1 x 10 points = 10 points
  • Warm-Up Demonstrations - 1 x 10 Points = 10 points
  • Skill Demonstrations - 3 x 10 points = 30 points

Total = 125 points

Grading Policy

Visit the “Grades” in Canvas to keep track of your grades. I grade once a week and post grades and submit comments on the online Canvas gradebook.

If taking Pass/No Pass you need at least 70% of the total class points and complete the midterm exam and the final exam to pass the class.

Standards of Conduct

Students who register in SRJC classes are required to abide by the SRJC Student Conduct Standards. Violation of the Standards is the basis for referral to the Vice President of Student Services or dismissal from class or from the College. See the Student Code of Conduct page.

Right to Privacy

All students have the right to learn freely and safely in both the physical classroom and the virtual classroom. Students may not share course contents, materials, recordings, or any other information containing representations of their classmates in writing, text, image, or video. This includes emails between students, posts to discussion boards, video threads containing signed dialogue, and any other media that contain the efforts of students who engage with the course (See Acts of Misconduct C., D., and E.). This especially applies to Zoom cloud recordings which are only stored on a temporary basis for the specific purpose of content review as deemed to be of benefit for all those enrolled in this course, and which are only available in TechConnect Zoom in Canvas. Students also may not discuss the performance of their classmates outside of the classroom. Violations of student privacy are subject to disciplinary action, with specifics to be handled in accordance with the appropriate SRJC policies and procedures.
