1.0 Unit Overview

Module 1 introduces Illustrator as a tool for developing vector-based Links to an external site. graphics and illustrations.

In this first module we will explore a new type of design process focused primarily on vector-based paths and shapes. Instead of pixels, we will be working with shapes. Shapes don't have resolution, rather they have edges defined by curves, points and lines. These can be open (like a wavy line) or closed (like a circle or silhouette). Vectors are primarily what you are viewing when you view comic books, typography, and non-photographically-based illustrations are typically developed as vector art. 

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Create and design unique vector graphics using basic tools of industry-standard software.
  2. Navigate industry-standard software by identifying design tools, menus and app windows within software workspace.
  3. Identify key figures in the fields of digital media arts and graphic design.
  4. Introduce students to industry-standard design software and tools.
