13.0 3D Tools Module Overview
This module introduces the 3D tools available in Adobe Illustrator.
In this module, we will explore Adobe Illustrator's 3D tools and materials while applying 3D effects to 2D paths. We will create several small illustrations using different settings to achieve a given result and then we will apply what we've learned to create a poster that relies on 3D graphics.
In this module we will learn how to apply 3D effects using extrude and inflate, setting directional views, material settings, and lighting settings, making adjustments as we work through each 3D & Materials tab using the 3D & materials window. We will then render and expand these objects to utilize as graphics within our documents.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Create and design unique vector graphics using basic 3D tools available within industry-standard software.
- Navigate industry-standard software by identifying design tools, settings, menus, features, and app windows within the software's 3D workspace.
- Apply 3D graphics to a given print design problem.
3D Module demos cover how to:
- Create a basic illustration using Adobe Illustrator 3D tools.
- Ma graphics to 3D surfaces.
- Adjust lighting to improve object visibility.
- Render 3D graphics for print output.
Module 3 discussions will:
- Allow students to learn from one another and share designs that apply 3D art to a graphic design poster.
Tasks to be completed are:
- 3.1 Introduction to 3D Tools in Illustrator (2 hours)
- 3.2 More 3D Tools! (Exercise) (1 hours)
