This is more about what you learned and how to apply it rather than a regurgitation of what is in the textbook or the lecture. Any sources used, including information from your textbook must be cited in APA format for potential full credit.
Case Study 15.2 (from Human Relations: Strategies for Success, Lamberton text)
Cecilia is the CEO of a mid-sized company. One of her favorite expressions is “If people don’t like working here, we’ll help them leave.” She has been at the company only a year, and people are not sure how seriously to take her. But in the past year, Cecilia has identified several top managers she thought were “not a good fit” with the company, and she “helped them leave.” Many of the managers are now nervous about losing their jobs and are careful not to say or do anything to confront her.
Cecilia meets weekly with her 10 top-level managers. During these meetings, she often makes fun of other staff who are not present, or the members of the Board of Directors, mocking them and imitating them in an unflattering way.
During these times, some of the managers laugh at her antics, while others look down at their notes, sneaking looks at the other managers at the table to try to gauge their reactions. Early on, when she had just joined the company, one of the managers asked a pointed question about the ethical boundaries of the company. She became angry and accused him of having no sense of humor. He was demoted soon thereafter. Since then, no one at the company has felt comfortable speaking up, or calling her out on her mockery of staff and board members. No one wants to go over her head and tell the Board of Directors what is going on. So Cecilia just continues this behavior, and now people expect it of her.
