Course Description
ESL 715/716 is an intermediate class that focuses on improving the language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing to help students use English every day at school, work, business and social situations. We will discuss personal experiences, issues and problems in the workplace, schools and the community
Student Learning Outcomes
ESL 715 – Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Use reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to understand and communicate ideas in personal, academic and vocational settings.
- Use appropriate cultural skills in interactions at work, school and in the community.
- Demonstrate study skills needed for success in academic environments.
ESL 716 – Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Use reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to clearly communicate and understand ideas in personal, academic and vocational settings.
- Employ culturally appropriate skills to communicate effectively with diverse cultural groups at work, school and in the community.
- Demonstrate study skills needed to matriculate to credit ESL courses.

You can locate and order textbooks online via the SRJC Bookstore. Note that if you want to pick your books up in Petaluma, you need to order them from the Petaluma Bookstore website.

Attendance
Students who fail to attend the first class (face-to-face courses) or do not log-in to an online class after the second day of the semester will be dropped from the class. It is strongly advised that if you need to miss more than one class/homework deadline in a row that you contact me to avoid being dropped from the clas
Grading Policy
According to the Non-Credit Career Development College Preparation (CDCP), students will be given a grade of P-promotion to the next level, SP-sufficient progress, but remain at current level, NP-no pass - you have not completed enough work, or W-withdraw. All grades are available to students through SRJC-my Cubby system.
A CASAS reading comprehension test will be given to students at the beginning and end of each semester to measure students’ progress for the semester
Standards of Conduct
Respect each other. Absolutely no talking while another student is talking. Please turn off your cell phones during class. Texting is not allowed. Cell phones in the classroom are a serious distraction. Please respect the classroom environment by not using your phones during class time.
