Attendance

  • Yoga Alliance requires 200-hour teacher training students to complete established contact hours in the presence of faculty in order to be eligible for registry.
  • See  https://www.yogaalliance.org/Credentialing/Standards/200-HourStandards .
  • The course KINES 70 and  SRJC’s Yoga 200-Hour Teacher Training Certificate program Attendance/Participation grading supports students’ successfully earning their certificates and meeting the Yoga Alliance  requirements for registration as a Registered Yoga Teacher - RYT 200.
  • Please note that students are required to attend two Yoga asana classes each week, either at SRJC as an enrolled  student in a KFIT Yoga class OR by attending virtual classes (livestream or recordings of livestream classes are best.)
  • You may attend outdoor classes offered by independent yoga instructors, gyms, fitness centers or yoga studios but will need to provide proof of attendance.
  • Students are responsible  for any associated fees (costs vary, often ranging from $12-$20/session) for all feed based classes.

Attendance Points & Absences

  • Each student begins KINES 70 with 200 attendance points.
  • For each hour missed, 15 points will be subtracted from that total. Example - Missing three hours would subtract 45 points or 11% of the final  grade.
  • With each weekend including 12.5 hours of meeting time, missing a  weekend would mean losing 187.5 points or 44% of the final grade.
  • An absence, for any and all reasons, is an absence.
  • Please note in order to make the Yoga Alliance Program standards of 200 Training Hours there are NO “excused” or “unexcused”  absences.”
  • In all circumstances, not being present during scheduled class time means losing  attendance points towards earning your RYT 200.
  • Some class activities may be made up for partial or full credit. However, any missed group activities, including team teaching, demo teaching, and skills development teaching cannot be duplicated in an asynchronous  environment and therefore may not be made up.
  • If you are going to be absent, notify the instructor in advance by email or Canvas message.
  • Missing an entire weekend without notifying the instructor in advance will result in being  dropped from the course immediately.

Punctuality

  • Punctuality is required at the start of all morning and afternoon meetings.
  • Being on time and  prepared are important requirements of teaching yoga professionally.
  • PLEASE NOTE - Each incidence of tardiness or leaving early will result in loss of Attendance/Participation points.  Arriving 1-10 minutes late = 5 points, 11-40 minutes = 10 points, 41-60 minutes late = 15 points,  and so on. The same standards apply for leaving early
  • Roll will be taken at the start of class. If you must leave early on a rare occasion, please tell the  instructor your departure time before class begins.

Participation Requirements

Participation consists of the following to earn full participation points for each class meeting:

  • Attending all classes, participating in the entire class period, and participating in all activities throughout the class period.
  • Arriving late, leaving early, or giving minimal effort  will negatively affect this portion of your grade.
  • To the best of your ability, respond to the instructor’s directions in class.
  • If a movement or  posture does not feel right for your body, or you have been told by a healthcare professional to avoid certain movements, please notify your instructor and skip that movement or posture. (This does not affect  Attendance/Participation grade.)

Written Assignments

  • All assignments will be turned in using the KINES 70 Canvas website.
  • Complete instructions for  each assignment will be posted on the KINES 70 Canvas website.
  • Assignments are due by  11:55 pm PST or  as outlined in your Canvas modules by the due date posted.
  • Assignments that are emailed or handed in will not be graded.
  • Practice Journal – this is a weekly log of your yoga practice. Attending two (2) yoga  classes (any style) is required each week. Classes may be taken by enrolling in an SRJC  KFIT Yoga class, taking virtual classes (livestream or recordings of livestream classes) or  attending an outdoor class with social distancing. You are responsible for any costs  associated with classes (see “Attendance")..

  • There will be two online exams taken on Canvas.
  • Each exam will be open for one week and may  be taken anytime before the due date.
  • Exams will be open book, open note and timed with  approximately one minute per question. The exam material comes from assigned textbook readings, class lectures and supplemental materials. It is your responsibility to take the online  exams by the due dates.

KINES 70 Class Standards of Conduct

Ahimsa is an ethical principle in the yoga tradition meaning “non-harming.” In the context of this  class, Ahimsa extends to classmates, instructors and self at all times. All members of the class  are expected to observe these guidelines. Not observing a guideline is the basis for referral to the  campus Conduct Administrator and consequences including suspension or dismissal from class  or from the College.

Conduct Guidelines:

  • Be conscious of the energy and attitude you are bringing to class. Even in a virtual  environment, it affects the entire group.
  • Come to class ready to focus, learn and contribute  to a positive class community.
  • Participate in all individual, partner, and group activities as directed by the instructor.
  • Please keep microphones muted unless called on to talk in class or during partner and group  practice teaching activities.
  • Obtain permission from the instructor and the subject before taking any photos, videos,  screenshots or audio recordings, or posting any images from class on social media.
  • Raise your hand to ask a question, or for the chance to be called on to answer a question. Refrain from interrupting the instructor, guest speakers or other students who are  addressing the class.
  • Moderate yourself in each class meeting to allow everyone a chance to participate.
  • Make  sure you’re not monopolizing class time by raising your hand to answer every question an  instructor asks, or asking excessive questions.
  • Please do not disrupt class time with personal problems or other attention-seeking behavior.
  • Ask the instructor questions about individual matters during times designated for student teacher conferencing (office hours meeting or phone call, Canvas message, email).
