  1. COURSE DESCRIPTION - This is a choir and you are here to sing!
  2. COURSE OBJECTIVES - You will learn improved social and behavioral skills in a group setting.  Students will learn and perform choral music while also improving music reading and singing skills.

MATERIALS – Most of the music is provided by the SRJC Music Department issued by the instructor or made available by link through the Student Portal to be downloaded and printed.

Please print out hardcopies of eCopies of music and keep them in a 1” or 1 ½ “ black binder.  Please refer to this binder at every class meeting and mark the music as you are directed to do so in rehearsal in pencil.  You will need an eraser.

It is important that you have a computer (with a mic and camera) that you can use to record your practice activities on Flipgrid and to attend Zoom meetings if necessary.   You will ALSO need a secondary device (smartphone, etc.) that you can use together with the computer to make Flipgrid recordings.  You will need good internet access.

We are using Zoom, Canvas and Flipgrid.  In case we need to share video files, please open a Google Drive account.  You can talk to Nancy Hayashibara about other file sharing platforms that you can use.

Intro to Flipgrid for Students

REQUIREMENTS – Students are required to: Attend all classes.  Bring all assigned music to each class. Do the homework by attending sectional rehearsals and completing Flipgrid Topic activities.  Be a good citizen.  Participate in all class activities at all times.  See a doctor when you are sick.  Participate in all scheduled performances.  Dress appropriately for each performance.  Improve as a singer and musician.  Return all borrowed college materials.

ATTENDANCE - Be on time – it is disrespectful to be late to any rehearsal, and 2.) Be prepared and ready to start on time, without needing to be called to order.  Chamber Singers students must be present from the beginning of the Concert Choir class meeting and continue into the Chamber Singers meeting with a 15-minute break between rehearsals.  We will take breaks to ensure that air quality is maintained at a safe standard.  Students  will need to adhere to all COVID-19 safety protocols and to assist with classroom set up and breakdown.

MASK WEARING DURING REHEARSALS - The CDC strongly recommends the use of masks during music rehearsals indoors; however, for students and staff at SRJC mask wearing is optional and cannot be mandated.  Please be sensitive to those around you.  I prefer to teach without a mask so that I can speak more easily.  Be guided by your own common sense.  For those who would like to wear them, there is a limited supply of "singers' masks" for use indoors during class rehearsals.  The Forsyth Choir Room has a hospital grade air ventilation and circulation system.  In addition, we use the large "air scrubber" unit between rehearsal sessions and classes.

GRADING - You are graded on: Participation in all class and additional scheduled rehearsals and events/projects; Sectional Rehearsal participation; AND demonstrated skill and mastery of the assigned literature.

DHR HOURS F2022 SEMESTER:

ATTENDANCE SCORES AND DHR HOURS:  100% = 52.5 Hrs - Full Participation in All Required Rehearsals and Performances = 61.25 Hrs. NOTE:

Total possible 61.25 – grade credit for DHR hours exceeding 8.75 minimum

CLASS ATMOSPHERE AND ENSEMBLE DYNAMICS
