Attendance

Students who fail to log on and initiate participation by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time by the first due date of the class may be dropped by the instructor.

Although this is an online course, your "attendance" in class is mandatory. The factors that make up "attendance" include submitting your assignments on time, and participating in each online class discussion before the deadline.

  • It is the student's responsibility to opt for a P/NP (Pass/No Pass) grade.
  • It is the student's responsibility to drop this course by the drop date(s). Please refer to the Academic Calendar.
  • Students who have not submitted assignments or contacted me by the end of the first week of class may be dropped by the instructor as No Shows.

Pass‐NoPass (P/NP)

You may take this class P/NP. You must decide before the deadline, and add the option online with TLC or file the P/NP form with Admissions and Records. With a grade of C or better, you will get P.

You must file for the P/NP option with Admissions and Records. Once you decide to go for P/NP, you cannot change back to a letter grade. If you are taking this course as part of a certificate program, you can probably still take the class P/NP. Check with a counselor to be sure.

Dropping the Class

If you decide to discontinue this course after attending for one or more classes, it is your responsibility to officially drop it. If you will miss more than one class/homework deadline in a row, please contact the instructor. A student may be dropped from any class when that student's absences exceed ten percent (10%) of the total hours of class time. I err on the side of keeping you in class, so please note you will get an F if you do not drop the class yourself.

Instructor Announcements/Email

The instructor will post announcements and/or send email via Canvas with class updates.

Late Policy

All assignments are due at midnight Sunday each week A late submission will receive a 3% penalty per day. In the Comments box of the Submission area, please let me know why your work is late. Allowances can be made when situations dictate that a bit of extra time is needed.

Missing or incorrect elements in the Skills Review assignments may lose up to 3 points depending upon impact of the error.
*I get to grading in between my other work deadlines. If you are concerned about your grade, you can check with me at any time.

Grades will be assigned as follows:

B: 80% of points

Important Course Organization and Assignment Info

Since this is a quick course, the organization of the course has been made as simple as possible. Each week, you should follow the directions on the weekly assignment page, which generally follow this pattern:

  1. Go to the weekly module and read the instructor's lesson overview and if an instructor demo is posted, watch that as well.
  2. View required video materials and search for your own as needed.
  3. Read and complete the textbook lesson for the week (white pages of chapter)
  4. Post your insightful comments (based on weekly prompts) in the Discussion Forum area each week
  5. Submit assignment(s) for the week (from colored pages at the end of each chapter in our textbook)

Note on book and software:

If you use an older or newer version of Word, or are working on a Mac, when completing assignments, you may not see exactly what the book shows or get the same results as the book shows or expects. Instead, you will have to look for similar settings and effects. Permission to improvise where needed.
