MUSCP 21ABCD CONCERT CHOIR – SYLLABUS

PLEASE NOTE THAT ADMISSION TO THIS CLASS IS BY AUDITION!

 Audition elements include: A Music reading literacy quiz (in class at first class meeting);  A completed Student information sheet;  A vocal audition for instructor – as explained during first class meeting. 

The scheduled time is 3:00-5:00 pm Monday 1.13.20.  Auditions must be completed by 1.22.20.

  1. COURSE DESCRIPTION - This is a choir. You are here to sing.
  2. COURSE OBJECTIVES - You will learn improved social and behavioral skills in a group setting.

Student will learn and perform choral music while also improving music reading and singing skills. 

MATERIALS - At every class meeting students are required to bring a 1” or 1 ½ “ black binder containing all assigned music, the class syllabus and schedule and a pencil with an eraser.

LOST MUSIC PACKET:  $50       LOST SRJC CHOIRS OFFICIAL FOLDER:  $25

REQUIREMENTS – Students are required to: Attend all classes.  Bring all assigned music to each class. Do the homework by attending sectional rehearsals.  Behave well.  Participate in all class activities at all times.  See a doctor when you are sick.  Participate in all scheduled performances.  Dress appropriately

for each performance.  Improve as a singer and musician.  Return all borrowed college materials.

ATTENDANCE - Be on time – it is disrespectful to be late to any rehearsal, and 2.) Be prepared and ready to start on time, without needing to be called to order.

GRADING - You are graded on: Participation in all class and additional scheduled rehearsals and events; Sectional Rehearsal participation; AND Demonstrated skill and mastery of the assigned literature.

CLASS ATMOSPHERE AND ENSEMBLE DYNAMICS-This is a cellphone-free zone.

Demonstrate respect.  Participate fully.  Do not talk during rehearsals.  Do no harm to another.

PERFORMANCES – Spring Semester 2020 - Attendance and Participation at all scheduled performances is mandatory.  We have four (4) activities/rehearsals/performances scheduled outside of class time this Spring.  PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND THEM ALL.

SAT      MAY 16            Final Choral Concert in Burbank Auditorium (6 – 10 pm)

WED     MAY 20            Final Exam Meeting & Awards Party (10 am – 12:00 noon)

SAT      MAY 23             SRJC Commencement (9 am – 12 noon)

All choral ensembles may have additional performance or field trip opportunities.
