Topic
An owner of a 100 unit apartment building lets the apartment manager live in an on site apartment worth $2,000 per month for free. Must the employer include the $2,000 value in the manager's gross pay?
Objectives
What is included in gross income? Is the apartment's value included in the employee's income for tax purposes? What about free meals? A company car? A Rolex watch as a Christmas present?
How about I go to a required business meeting, and stay in a $500 per night Hotel, eat two $700 dollar meals per day, grab a $200 massage, and the business pays for it all? Two nights for a one day meeting, $2,600 for that, plus first class plane travel, Uber rides, and I visited the Zoo before I left and spent $125.00.
Get the apartment right first. Up to 50 points if you figure all this out.
