Attendance and Participation
There are no excused absences. In accordance with the attendance policy of SRJC, students are expected to attend all sessions of the course in which they are enrolled. Students are expected to arrive on time. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class. If you arrive late, it is your responsibility to let the instructor know at the end of class. If you miss more than two classes, your grade could be affected. Any student with excessive absences may be dropped from the class. A student may be dropped from any class when that student's absences exceed 10% of the total hours of class time. I expect you to come to class on time, participate in class discussions and stay for the entire class session. If you leave class early, your attendance grade may also be reduced.
Dropping the Class
Please be aware, it is the students’ responsibility to drop the course if they do not intend to complete. The instructor may drop any student enrolled in a course that is not present or has not made prior arrangements with the instructor by the second class roll call.
Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
If you need disability-related accommodations for this class, such as a note taker, test-taking services, special furniture, etc., please provide the authorization letter from the Disability Resources Department (DRD) to your instructor as soon as possible. You may also speak with me privately during office hours about your accommodations. If you do not have authorization from DRD, it is recommended that you contact the office directly (527-4278).
Emergency Evacuation Plan
In the event of an emergency during class that requires the evacuation of the building, please leave class immediately, but calmly. Our class will meet by the adjacent tennis courts to make sure everyone left the building safely and to receive further instructions. Stairways are located at both ends of the hallway. If you are a student with a disability who may need assistance in an evacuation, please contact me as soon as possible so we can discuss an evacuation plan.

All students are expected to follow the standards of conduct of Santa Rosa Junior College. Certain behaviors will not be tolerated and could result in your being dropped from the class. These include but are not limited to:

Writing Assignments
There will be six written assignments which are preferrably submitted via Canvas throughout the semester. If you have challenges with Canvas, you may turn in your printed papers in class on the due date of the assignment. Explanations of assignments and their due dates are posted on Canvas. I will also provide paper copies to those who need it, on the day the assignment opens in Canvas. I am available to meet to review the assignment, if you need further explanation or support. Each student is required to keep a legible and organized journal to record Reflective Questions. These questions will be written on the board at the beginning of class. It is your responsibility to read the instructions thoroughly, and plan accordingly to complete and submit assignments on time. If you cannot submit these electronically, you will need to submit a paper copy to me in class on the due date of the assignment.
Quizzes
There will be four online quizzes. The material comes from the textbook, class lectures and supplemental materials. Not all quiz content will be be covered in class, so keeping up with the reading is important. You will need to register with LaunchPad in order to complete these quizzes. If you do not attain access to LaunchPad, you must submit the quiz by hand to the professor in class, on the due date of the quiz. If any exam is missed, a zero will be recorded as the score. It is your duty to take the online exams by the due date. I do not accept late quizzes.
Extra Credit
Articles and videos will occasionally be posted under, 'Discussions' in Canvas. Your thoughtful comments and respectful responses to your classmates ideas is imperative. You may receive extra credit points for engaging in the discussion.
Standards For Writing
This class relies heavily on writing. The quality of your writing is crucial for success. All assignments must be written at a college level. They must have clear, concise content and be free of grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors. Proofread your work and cite all sources of information. You may obtain free, individual assistance at the writing center on campus.
