Target audience

photo of audienceIdentifying your target audience is a key consideration in interface design. You should design an interface that accommodates the interests, anticipated needs, web or network access methods/devices, browser choice and skill levels of your audience.

The interface must be immediately understandable to users the FIRST TIME they visit. Every page needs to have consistent visitor cues (such as labels, tooltips or text explanations, icons etc.) to help the user out and regular feedback so the user knows what's happening (e.g., loading screens, 404 error messages, thank you screens etc).

Most people have a specific information goal when they visit a site or use an app and are not going to take the time to figure out an unusual or unclear interface. They will just go somewhere else. A successful interface gives the user a sense of control not helplessness! Successful interface designers  anticipate the needs of the visitor and put themselves in the visitor's shoes.

You might enjoy watching this video about how frustrating it as as a user when you have no control over the interface. I'm sure some of you can relate to this experience!

Interface Web Example:

Take a look at these sites and see if you can figure out the interfaces. The first one is innovative but is it easy to interpret?!! Do you know what the site is about and what it has to offer? How quickly can you get to the information you wanted? How about the second site? As a user are you excited and motivated to continue the experience?
