Using Type to Create Interesting Effects!

Type can be used to create interesting visual effects. The example in the slide above demonstrates the use of different typefaces to create blocks or shapes (a patchwork quilt effect). You could do this with different text colors as well. Take a look at the following sites and see how they have used type to create interesting effects.

Using Type to Create Texture

Type can also be used as a textural effect. Words layered on each other in different opacities can create a very interesting depth and visual texture. Individual alphabet letters can be used for visual impact. You can experiment with opacity and cropping. Scroll through this site and see what happens!

 

Type as a Design Element

Look at the typography on these web sites. Notice how the type can become a design element in its own right (by use of an interesting font or bright colors for example). Is this creativity or overkill? Perhaps the type enhances the mood...
