So What Do We Mean by Creative Typography?

In a typical design, type is there to communicate information to viewers but it also has other important functions that include:

  • Adding visual interest
  • Developing a mood or atmosphere (that resonates with the topic)
  • Enhancing the meaning of the content so it's easier to understand

Here are a couple of examples of dynamic typography.

Example 1:

The sample below uses contrasting type size and color to emphasize the words just for you and smart, simple, superawesome.

Example 2:

The following site uses strong contrast in the typefaces used for the heading to add interest. The font resonates with the "rock" theme. It is textured and uneven.
