Sharing Images in Canvas

IMPORTANT: There are two ways to share an image in Canvas:

1. Via URL on the web. You need to right click on the image you want to share and select: Open Image in New Tab. Then, COPY the URL from the top address bar in the browser. When you click on the Embed Image icon (mountain) in the formatting menu above your message, you will click the URL tab and paste in the URL.

2. Via image uploaded to Canvas Files. Right click on the image and select Save Image As... Store the image on your computer. Click on your Account icon in the far left sidebar. Select Files. Click on Upload and select the image you want to share. When you click on the Embed Image icon (mountain) in the formatting menu above your message, you will click the Canvas tab and locate your uploaded image in the Files folder.

WARNING! Do not delete, remove, rename any images after you've uploaded and embedded them in a discussion. It will result in a broken image link!

Step by step instructions

  • Make sure the image is on its own page (see instructions above)
  • Copy the URL (web address) to that single image or save the image to your computer
  • Click the REPLY button under the instructions to start your message post.
  • Use the formatting menu above the message input box to insert an image (click on the mountain icon "Embed Image"). Click the URL tab or the Canvas tab (see red instructions above). Don't worry about the information under the Attributes title although you can type in new dimension numbers if you want.
  • Click the Update button. The image should appear in the message window. You can adjust the size by clicking on the image and using the handles at the edge of the image if you want to.
  • You can type above or below the image if needed.
  • Remember to click the Post Reply button beneath your message.
