S18 Assignment 13: Develop a set of colored panels for the Project 2 single-page restaurant design (20 points)
- Due May 1, 2018 by 11:59pm
- Points 15
- Submitting a file upload
Last week you did research, developed a Moodboard and a possible color palette for your Project 2 (one-page restaurant site). Project 2 information page.
Use your research, moodboard and palette assignments to develop a set of stacked color panels for the different parts of your restaurant scrolling site. Add texture to at least one or more of the panels.
Color Panels Instructions:
1. FIRST... Create a beautiful, appropriate color palette!
Use or tweak your existing color palette or develop a new one that fits with your restaurant's mood/theme. You should have:
- 4 compatible/harmonious colors to use in color blocks/shapes/backgrounds for each of the 4 sections needed for your restaurant page (landing panel, about panel, menu links panel and contact panel)
- 1 neutral color to use as a contrast for headings and text.
- For tips on creating color palettes read this page: Recommendations for Color Palettes
2. SECOND... Build a set of stacking panels using one color for each section!
- Build a LONG Photoshop (or InDesign/Illustrator) document about 1600 wide x 4000 pixels tall (vertical dimension is approximate) @ 72ppi that has 4 panels (one for each of your palette colors).
- The top panel (landing) should be 1600 wide x 1000 high. The rest of the panels may vary in height depending on content requirements. For now... make them 1000 pixels high.
- The panels will eventually contain the following content:
1. Landing panel with hero image, logo and navigation
(another assignment this week)
2. About panel with some kind of history or description of the restaurant
3. Restaurant menu panel with some overview/links to menus (not entire menus!)
4. Contact and location panel with a contact form, contact information and map/location/directions. - Make sure the colors work well next to each other and that they are appropriate for your restaurant type.
- Demonstrate your neutral color palette choice by typing in a sample heading at the top of one panel.
3. THIRD... Add a subtle, appropriate texture to one or more panels!
- Add a subtle, interesting, textured background to at least ONE or more of the panels (not the top one). It should be appropriate for your restaurant type. See examples below.
4. FOURTH... Add a simple shape or box intended for text content!
- Draw an appropriate shape for a text content box on panel #2 to show how you might handle an ABOUT paragraph. The box can be tinted (see Rosebud yellow panel below) or overlaid on a textured background (see Fuel Shack panel #2 below) or some other design solution.
Examples:
Here are two examples of what you should end up with when you finish the project! Look carefully at the panels used in each design and check out the use of texture.
Submission Instructions:
Submit this part of the assignment to the dropbox as a jpeg or PDF! It is easier for me to comment directly on your color panels if you submit a PDF.
