Week 1 Topics: Introduction to Screen Design

This week we are going to discuss the differences between design and development and important role graphic designers play. We'll also take a quick look at the basic design principles and how they can improve the look of a page.

During this first week of class, you should also take some time to explore the class web site and make sure you understand where to go to find a particular piece of information.

This Week's Goals:

• Explore the differences between design and development
• Discuss the importance of graphic design skills to screen design
• Examine what makes a design awful or great and look at some basic design principles

 

Week 2 Topics: Processes for Design and Planning 

This week we are going to look at some fundamental aspects of screen design from the graphic designer's perspective including the planning steps involved in designing a web site. We will also have a quick overview of the advances in technology and devices that make a web designer's job so challenging. 

This Week's Goals:

• Review technology and devices and how they impact the designer
• Explore the process of planning and designing a screen design or website
• Discuss working with clients and developing creative briefs
• Look at brainstorming and wireframing tools and techniques
