S18 Assignment 5: Develop site structure diagrams and develop new navigation for Mudcat Blues using Bubbl.us (15 points)
- Due Apr 10, 2018 by 11:59pm
- Points 15
- Submitting a file upload
- File Types pdf
For this assignment, you will analyze and redesign the navigation structure of the Mudcat Blues site (you only need to show the links from the home page -- no need to delve into subpages). Use bubbl.us to create TWO diagrams:
1. A diagram that shows the existing structure (home page with first level of subpages)
2. A diagram that shows your own new-and-improved structure (based on the recommendations in this week's lecture).
Your tree structure diagrams should look something like this with the home page at the top of the structure and lines linking to sub pages. (Note: This is for a different band's site.)
Mudcat Blues Site:
Diagram #1: Existing site structure diagram -- 4 points
Look at the current navigation/links for the Mudcat website and translate those into a tree structure diagram with the home page at the top. Here's a link to Bubbl.us, the online tool you'll be using for this assignment:

Links to an external site.
You can create diagrams without an account but it's easier if you create an account to save your diagrams just in case you need to update them (you can save up to 3 diagrams with a free account).
Note: if you really don't like bubbl.us, you could try this online tool instead: https://app.mindmup.com/ Links to an external site.
Diagram #2: New-and-improved site structure diagram -- 6 points
- Analyze the existing Mudcat navigation structure.
- Make notes about what fails and what works.
- Draw up a new navigation scheme in Bubbl.us that more efficiently meets the Mudcat site's goals and follows the navigation tips provided in this week's lecture and reading.
- You can change hierarchy, regroup separate navigation items under one label, and relabel any existing navigation but you still need to maintain access to the same content (pages).
Submitting your assignment
When you have completed your two diagrams:
-
-
Download both diagrams out of Bubbl.us as png or jpeg images (making screen shots might also work).
-
Insert both diagrams into a Word (or wordprocessing or InDesign) document (make sure they're a decent size. I have to be able to read the labels!).
-
Write two paragraphs (5 points) under the SECOND new-and-improved diagram. The paragraphs should:
A. Describe in detail what you changed from the original Mudcat site navigation (e.g. grouping, hierarchy, relabeling, new navigation etc.)
B. Clearly explain the reasons WHY you made the changes with reference to the lecture and reading from this week.
C. Make sense with well-explained, grammatically-correct sentences.
- Save your document as a PDF and upload to Canvas.
-
Download both diagrams out of Bubbl.us as png or jpeg images (making screen shots might also work).
