Grieving Days, Healing Days Workbook Project
These directions pertain to the 16 Grieving Days, Healing Days [GDHD] workbook assignments that you must submit by snail mail [USPS] as part of the overall requirements for this online course.
Please read the following very carefully.
Overview
1. First things first. The GDHD workbook was designed to help you master key concepts and terms in the textbook. I expect students to at least review the material in the GDHD and to use it to master the readings in the primary textbook.
2. There are no GDHD extra credit opportunities during summer school classes. Extra-credit must be approved in advance. It is generally ONLY available for those students close to failing.
3. Students must submit any 16 readings/exercises/activities of their choosing and a reaction paper of 250 words for each. You may choose from any of the hundreds of selections found in the GDHD workbook, including ones used in your four required ones. For example in chapter two, there is an exercise on pages 50-51 entitled: "Infant Losses?" For this selection all you need to do is read it and then write a reaction paper---see details below. Note: Do not complete chapters or modules---that is TOO much! Just complete individual readings or exercises or activities. Also remember, some workbook exercises have tasks you must also complete within them, while other exercises simply require you to read them only.
4. The 16 GDHD written assignments are an important part of this course. Please keep in mind that students who fail to mail in passable assignments by the "postmark" date will receive no credit.
5. The 16 GDHD submissions must be received “in-hand” not just postmarked by the announced deadline Send ALL 16 OF THEM TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME. They should be sent to Dr. J. Davis Mannino, Department of Behavioral Sciences, Santa Rosa Junior College, 1501 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95401. A student may also hand deliver them to my office. You may slide them under my office door---do not burden staff. My office is 1544 in Emeritus Hall. This is on the lower floor. You may deliver them to either Lori or Dinna, who will then put them in my office mailbox. If you are going to hand delivered them, sliding them under my office door is the best way. I do not share my office, so it is only me who enters my office. As with all important course/class documents please be sure you keep a full copy of your submisson in case ---for whatever reason---this important and critical course requirement gets lost on your end, the postal service's end, or SRJC/Professor's end! NOTE: If sending by USPO mail, please be sure to send by "return receipt requested." Please note that in casses where submissions are lost but the student has but proof of mailing, a student may re-submit their photo copy of the entire submission and not be penalized. Students who state their package was sent in a timely fashion but I do not have it, [lost in the mail] will have their submission severely marked down without this important receipt proof and project photocopy.
Deadline for Fall semester is prior to November 15
Deadline for Spring semester is prior to April 15
Deadline for Summer program is prior to July 10
Grading
1. The 16 GDHD submissions are worth 150 points.
2. 150 points are awarded upon submission of 16 GDHD submissions prior to the announced due date.
3. There is NO advantage to submitting more than 16 GDHD submissions---only 100 points will be issued.
4. The entire package is pass/fail.
5. Submissions are not letter graded and they are NOT returned. They are shredded. If you wish copies, make them before sending them to me. The reason they are not returned is students have passed them to other students taking my classes, who then submitted this stolen work as their own work---thus cheating. Technical Guidelines
1. You must submit 16 GDHD selections [any combination of readings, exercises, or activities from anywhere in the GDHD].
2. First, complete what each reading, exercise, or activity asks for. For example, there may be fill-in, sentence completion, or questions to answer within the body of the assignment. If room allows, answers may be written within the assignment "tear-out." Responses may also be provided in an attached type-written page.
3. Students must ALSO submit a typed-written one-page (250 words) double-spaced “reaction paper.” A reaction paper is comprised of your reactions, thoughts, and learning received from having completed a particular GDHD selection [reading, exercise, or activity.
4. Each of the 16 reaction papers should be stapled to each of the ORIGINAL exercises, readings, or activity pages that have been torn out from the GDHD workbook. This will serve as proof of purchase, and therefore, hopefully, your utilization of the workbook. No photocopies. Please note some assignments may not have anything to complete/do other than reading, absorbing, etc. For such assignments, the reaction paper is critical.
5. Finally, here's an example of what I am talking about. For instance, let's again use the selection I mentioned earlier in chapter two, (pages 50-51) entitled: "Infant Losses?" For this selection you would read it, type up a 250-word reaction paper, staple it to the original page or pages torn out from the GDHD workbook and include it in your overall package of 16 total such selections. You then send this package by mail (postmarked) to me by the noted deadline. Also remember, some workbook exercises have tasks you must also complete within them, while other exercises simply require you to read them only.
6. If you have questions regarding any of these directions, please email me.
