Psych 56 - Aging, Dying, and Death
Purpose
1. The purpose of this mandatory and graded post is to verify that you are enrolled and an active student in this class --- it's basically a "Getting To Know You" intake form AND an attendance sign-in sheet! Students who do not complete this "New Class Check-In Discussion Board Post" prior to 11:59 PM, August 26, 2017 will be dropped and have their class spot given to other students on the "electronic wait list."
2. This graded discussion also provides you an opportunity to: (a) introduce yourself, (b) get to know your classmates by reading their posts, (c) "test run" Discussion Board" tools, and (d) learn other aspects of the course website ---- better known as the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
Directions
To compose your Post --- again, due by 11:59 PM, Saturday, August 26, 2017 --- hit the reply button below. Then introduce yourself to others (at least 3 other students) in the class by answering the following four questions:
1. Describe who you are, status at SRJC, and what your goals are?
2. Why you are taking this course?
3. What is one thing that fascinates you about taking a course in "Aging, Dying, and Death?"
4. What interesting "tidbit," factoid," or other such information will you share about yourself with all of us in this class?
For example, a student might write:
"Hi Class! My name is Michael Caulfield. I live and work in Novato, but was born and raised in Keene, NH. I am taking this course primarily as part of a Social Services Certificate program I am enrolled in --- I manage a senior citizen's home. I've always been interested in the topic of aging, dying, and death. I've heard much feedback about this topic from others who work with me, but I've never taken a full course on the subject. So I'm looking forward to the breadth and depth I will receive in taking Psych 56.
As far as what I find fascinating about this topic, it is the spiritual connection. From a learning perspective, I'd like to feel more competent working with the elderly, and in particular, with those moving through hospice and death.
An interesting "tidbit" about myself is: I worked in my father's funeral home while growing up."
Optional: Use the built-in video recorder so we can see your face and hear your voice. Just click the filmstrip icon in the reply editor.
5. Finally, share your thoughts with at least three (3) other students' posts you may have liked in particular.
