MLA is the suggested format utilizing a minimum of three references.  Two references may be from the Internet.  The Research Paper must be submitted through Canvas (Assignment Link). Grades for late research papers will be lowered by 20% unless arrangements are made prior to the deadline. The due date is provided on the Calendar of Events. See the Grading Rubric for the Research Paper on the assignment page. This is a REQUIRED assignment. Students who fail to complete the assignment FAIL the entire course.

Online Discussion Attendance

Networking is extremely important for firefighters.  More than likely, each of you will only know each other by email addresses.  It is my goal as the instructor to encourage you to go to the Discussion Board associated with the class for in depth discussions amongst yourselves.  The instructor plans on overseeing the discussions and addressing comments or questions.  This is a mandatory requirement for the class.  There are posted questions you are expected to answer, as well as offering feedback to other student answers within the class.  The Instructor will place several posts to discussions, which may be tested on.  Make sure to review all instructor posts within the discussions.  There are thirteen discussion questions that will be graded based upon your participation.  (Total points = 1300).  See due dates on the Calendar of Events located on the Course Information page.

DIRECTIONS for Discussion Success:

You must participate in the discussion the week of the discussion according to the calendar of events for full credit. Students must provide an initial post 48 hours prior to the due date of the discussion and provide a minimum of two posts to other student’s initial posts. Both the initial posts and additional posts must be in at least 100 words or more.

I leave all discussions open during the class for students who wish to continue the dialogue, however the discussions are graded shortly after the week they are due according to the calendar of events.

Standards of Conduct

Students who register in SRJC classes are required to abide by the SRJC Student Conduct Standards. Violation of the Standards is basis for referral to the Vice President of Student Services or dismissal from class or from the College. See the Student Code of Conduct page.

Collaborating on or copying of tests or homework in whole or in part will be considered an act of academic dishonesty and result in a grade of 0 for that test or assignment. Students are encouraged to share information and ideas, but not their work. See these links on Plagiarism:
