This week we are doing a kind of preview of Between the World and Me by looking at three different resources that give us a sense of what it's about.

Before you respond to the discussion below, do the following:

Read and take notes on Michelle Alexander's review of Links to an external site.Between the World and Me.
Watch and take notes on Jon Stewart's interview with Coates, and Coates' acceptance speech for the National Book Award for Between the World and Me. Both of these videos are posted on the SRJC Library Guide for the book.

POST: Write a 200-word minimum response to the prompt below. Due by Friday, 11/4, 10 pm.

RETURN by Monday, 11/7, 10 pm to comment on two other posts.

PROMPT:

Alexander's review and the two videos that I've had you review are what I'll call "preview texts"--they help us to get a sense of what this book is going to be about. So, based on what you've read, seen, and heard from the preview texts, what do you expect the book to be about? Do you have a sense of what Coates main point or argument will be? What interests you or intrigues you about the book? Do you have any questions about the book? What do you hope you'll get out of the book? Ground your response in specific statements made by the preview texts.
