Hit the reply button, below. Introduce yourself to other members of the course by answering the questions listed below. I PREFER that you test out the video/audio recorder (just click the filmstrip icon in the reply editor) to post your reply. If you don't have a webcam, you can still audio record yourself. If you can't get it to work, no worries, but I hope to get you used to that method of communicating in the course, which may be useful later:
- What's your major? Where do you think you might be headed with your AA or Bachelor's degree?
- Do you questions about the syllabus or what you're seeing in the course so far?
- What issues, candidates, and propositions in the November election interest you? One of our first projects for the course is the Voter Guide Project, so I'd like to know what you'd like to learn more about. In general, I want to guide you to more local (state or county) issues or races, because the Presidential election tends to overshadow everything else (and, honestly, I can't read anymore about Clinton's emails or Trump's antics). Before responding to the discussion, skim through the official California Voter Guide here Links to an external site.. You can get a quick overview of all of the propositions that we'll be voting on in November on page 8, and you can read statements by the two candidates for Senate on page 116. In terms of Sonoma County, this "Community Separators" measure Links to an external site. is the only thing I know that we'll be voting on for sure in November, so read a bit about that as well. After you do that bit of reading, what do you think? What would you like to research more about and be educated on come November? Also, if your interests lie elsewhere, throw out national issues that interest you: immigration policy, trade policy, health care reform? ...and so on... I'm just trying to get an idea of what you guys are thinking before I get the Voter Guide Project completely set up.
