1. Watch the video above that explains the goals of this discussion.
2. Read and analyze the Informative Research that your group has collected so far. Focus on the following as you read:
- Try to identify key points of disagreement among the different viewpoints (for/against, liberal/conservative). If you find a point of disagreement, what further research is necessary to be able to decide who you agree with?
- Sometimes opposing sides view the problem or controversy in completely different ways, and they may disagree about what the facts of the situation are. If you see this in the Informative Research, what further research might help you make a decision about what the facts actually are, or how to define the situation?
- Is there any information that is simply missing from the research that has been collected so far by the group? What kind of research would you like to add to the collection and why?
3. Post a minimum 300-word response to the prompt below (by 10 pm on Wednesday, 9/28).
Prompt: Based on your analysis of the Informative Research, what kind of further research do you think will help you come to a conclusion on the issue? What types of research sources might be helpful? Why? Try to be specific about where you'll go to find this information. Your response will form the basis of your specific assignment for the In-Depth Research Assignment.
4. Respond: Return and continue the discussion on Thursday, 9/29 by 10 pm. Respond to your group-members' ideas and answer or comment on my questions and concerns. In our discussion we will finalize your assignment for the kind of information you're going to gather for the In-Depth Research element of the Voter Guide Project (which is due Monday, 10/10 by 10 pm).
