Connecting to Zoom and Meeting Etiquette

Prior to the meeting:

During the meeting:

  • Share your video and audio
  • Ensure the location lighting does not limit your visibility (e.g., avoid backlighting from windows or lamps).
  • Stay muted unless providing comment to reduce background noise
  • Keep laptop/Ipad on stable surface with webcam at eye level
  • Be careful of background noise when speaking
  • Be prepared to be in place for the majority of the meeting
  • When speaking, always identify yourself by name first
  • When using chat, make sure you select the intended recipient either “everyone” or the specific individual
  • In order to ensure that your video and audio quality is good during our sessions, ask everyone else in the house not to watch streaming video during our class time.
  • The closer you are to your router (internet modem), the better. Just changing rooms helps.
  • Another way to improve your connection if your audio or video is not perfect during class is to turn off the video.
  • If the audio is garbled or delayed, you can switch to phone audio.
