1.  Overall, Americans feeling confident and more prosperous after WW I

  • All groups making more money, but middle class (especially the very wealthy seeing the most improvements).
  • European competition weakened because of the War
  • Welfare capitalism:  large companies start to offer benefits like health insurance and paid vacation to some employees, trying to  keep employees from joining unions
  • Women are free after the 19th!?!?!?!?
