Discussion:

Complete the following as part of your Monday, 2/10 class time, write out your responses and submit them in class on Wednesday, 2/12.

1. The use of digital communication has overtaken face-to-face and voice-to-voice communication in the workplace. Has this shift changed the fundamental process of communication?

2. Why should business writers strive to use short, familiar, simple words? Does this dumb down business messages?

3. Good communicators know the best way to convey meaning is by using clear, concise language rather than corporate jargon (industry/job specific terms and language) and trendy phrases. Do you agree with this statement, why or why not?

Replace the words and phrases below with more direct language that avoids clichés. Bring your responses to class on Wednesday, 2/12 for Monday class credit.

  2. Outside the box
  3. Pivot
  4. Honestly
