Learning Goal:
- Plan on spending a lot of time thinking, reading, writing, and revising this week. The Research Essay is due at the end of the week.

Week Ten: Research Essay
This week you will be finalizing your Research Essay. As you revise your essay, pay close attention to the following areas:
- Does it contain a thesis that incorporates the broad and narrow aspects of your essay?
- Review your introduction. We have discussed and applied many possibilities for beginning a piece of writing – evaluate the effectiveness of the one you have chosen.
- Underline the topic sentence in each paragraph. Are the paragraphs connected and do they evolve the your argument?
- Evaluate the integration of textual evidence. Is each source fully introduced and analyzed? Are the sources cited correctly in the text?
- Evaluate the organization of the essay? Does the argument evolve logically?
- Do you have a clearly stated position in relation to the social issue being conveyed? (ie. Does the essay do more than provide an overview of the situation?)
- Locate the alternative perspective included *required. Is it fully explained and evaluated in relation to the primary perspective and position being conveyed?
- Evaluate the conclusion. Does the essay end in a way that is satisfying? For example, does it respond to the content in the essay or offer a plan for action?
- Check the works cited page for correctness.
- Review the clarity of each sentence. Locate grammatical errors are ideas that could be stated more clearly.
Spending time reviewing and revising these areas of your essay will result in a much stronger final draft :-)
