Week Seven Overview: Start Here

Welcome to Week Seven!

This week you will continue working on your research essay. At this point in the process you should:

  • Have a topic and tentative argument, which you are refining through researching. Your topic and position will become defined through the knowledge and perspectives you gain as you peruse the library databases and other resources.

This week you will begin the writing process through completing an annotated bibliography of your sources.

Week Seven Assignments:

Part One: Reading Assignments:

1- Begin by browsing the All Sides Media Overview webpage. This source provides an overview of the political leaning of all major publications. Consider where you get your information and how that impacts the content.

2- Read "This Article Won't Change Your Mind" and consider how your views influence how you select and interpret information.

Part Two: Annotated Bibliography

1- Begin by selecting four sources you think will be foundational within your research essay (your ideas will evolve as you write and you are not required to use these early sources heavily or at all).

2- You must use one of each of the following source types: Book, Journal Article, News Article, and an organization that works with your topic (website). *Use Noodletools (Tutorial: http://www2.santarosa.edu/libraryguides/tutorial/noodlebib) to cite your sources.

3- Then, use the "Annotated Bibliography" handout to locate the required information to write your annotations, which can also be completed in Noodletools.

4- Lastly, write a brief paragraph that describes how the research you located works together to support your position and argument. Submit this assignment for evaluation.
