This week your primary focus is writing and revising your first major essay. You should be spending several hours brainstorming, writing, and revising to ensure you ideas are clearly articulated, strongly supported, and logically organized.

Learning Outcomes for Week Three

  • Read and apply writing techniques: Thesis, Introduction and Conclusion Handouts
  • Write your essay with consideration of a specific audience: Tone, Reader vs. Writer Based Prose Handouts
  • Clarify any areas of uncertainty you have about the Origins essay (Discussion Board)
  • Revise your essay by reviewing and assessing all areas in the revision handout

Week Three: "Writing Resource" Readings

A series of readings have been provided as resources to assist with the writing and revising processes. Review each and apply the concepts to your essay in progress.

Week Three: Optional Discussion Boards and Essay Due

The two discussion boards provided this week are optional: One is for questions about the readings and the other is for posting a draft of your "Origins" essay for feedback. You are welcome to post a portion of your essay (for example, the introduction) for feedback; you do not need to have the entire essay done. Drafts posted within 24-48 hours of the due date will most likely not receive feedback from me or the TA. You are welcome to respond to your peers' essays.

*Submit your polished "Origins" essay by the due date.

Happy writing! Enjoy the process :-)
