Case Study:
Mr. L is an 84-year-old man admitted with a diagnosis of CVA (cerebral vascular accident – stroke). He is 70 inches tall and weighs 153 lbs, with a usual body weight (UBW) of 180 lbs. After the first 36 hours of admission, his intake is reported to be very poor. He is unable to communicate, and the Speech Therapist notes that he is having difficulty swallowing.
