Assignment

You will be turning in a drawing for this assignment

Use your drawing from last week- in a new color, make at least 2 changes to your drawing- using the ideas you got from the "Gallary Walk''

  • the pathway of a molecule of sugar through your digestive system into your bloodstream (this should include all of the organs and what happens in them) (this is from last week's SA)
  • how the pancreas regulates your blood glucose levels in conjunction with the cells of your body and the liver
  • make sure to include how the pancreas delivers insulin to the blood stream( exocytosis- vesicles and cytoskeleton), the way glucose enters cells (phospholipid bilayer and  GLUT4)
  • what are the sugars used for in the liver vs. the cells of the body.
  • Make sure to explain about cell respiration and ATP (this from last week's SA)

Now add the following information to the drawing. - Make this  a distinctive color

  • How does insulin lead to the insertion of GLUT4 into the membrane and therefore the entry of glucose into the cell
  • make sure to include insulin , insulin receptor, signal amplification, vesicles, cytoskeleton, GLUT4, glucose

Diabetes :

      •  On your drawing indicate  what the problem  with the cell signaling system for Type 1 diabetics ( use a different color ink)
      • On your drawing, indicate  what the problem  with the cell signaling system for Type 2 Diabetes (use another color)
