Design Sketches Due November 19th

Description:

The first step in the Final Project is to create a minimum of THREE original garment design ideas. You will meet individually with your instructor on NOVEMBER 19th to review your sketches BEFORE you begin patterning. Your instructor will help you to select the design that is most appropriate for the project and for your skill level. You will develop a plan for exactly how to proceed with your pattern manipulations based on this design sketch, and the final garment patterns will be judged on whether the design has been achieved. Final project sketches should conform to the following criteria:

Your design must include at least THREE of the following pattern elements

- Band (waistband or sleeve cuff)
- Zipper
- Button Placket
- Facing
- Collar
- Pockets
- Sleeves

Directions:

Using a flats body template or fashion croquis you should begin sketching and brainstorming for design ideas. Be sure to consider all the types of pattern manipulations we have discussed and practiced so far this semester. You should also include design details as listed above. Even if we have not yet learned to draft the patterns for them (we will in the coming weeks).

Don't forget to think about the back of the garment.... You must bring THREE SETS OF FLATS (that means front and back) for your own original garment designs to class on November 19th.

Important Note: Once you have discussed the designs with your instructor, if there are changes or alterations made to the garment design, you must draw a new flat sketch. You should have this final design sketch on hand for all class meetings through the remainder of the semester. Your finished project will be graded based on how well it matches with the sketched design.
