This week we learn about our first nutrient, carbohydrates.  We will look at how the body uses carbohydrates, what foods have them, and how much we need to be healthy. We will also explore some myths surrounding carbohydrates. After we understand carbohydrates, we will look at Diabetes and how diet can affect this condition.

Objectives:

  •  Describe the sources, intake recommended for well-being, including results of over and
      under consumption, for carbohydrate, including dietary fiber
  • Relate the importance of good nutrition to quality of life and describe the long term damage
    to the body caused by poor nutrition including chronic diseases such as cardiovascular
     disease, diabetes
