Why should you watch this?

The Epic of Gilgamesh is the earliest great work of literature that we know of, and was first written down by the Sumerians around 2100 BC, though it might have been passed down as an oral story for many generations before it was written down. This video presents the first few lines in a poetic song style. Scholars believe that most ancient epic poems were sung or recited as poetry by bards since the rhythmic patterns enabled the performer to remember the sequence and events of the story. This video presents an interpretation of the poem using an ancient musical instrument.
