Being Successful in this Course
Famous last words: "I can do that later. . ."
I want you to be successful in this course. Although there generally will not be a weekly reminder or homework or quiz, it is important to keep up with the weekly reading and topics. I distribute homework assignments somewhat early so you can tackle material as it comes along. Late assignments will not be allowed unless you contact me in advance to arrange a late turn-in. If you are ill, let me know before class via email or the Canvas inbox. I may cover some homework questions in lecture but cannot if I am waiting for late assignments to be turned in - late assignments are unfair to your classmates. I also will arrange office hours by request so just ask! Keep up with the readings and ask questions if you do not understand.
It is also important for you to pay attention in lecture. There is some material I will cover that is not in the textbook and you will need that for the homework and exams. Looking at some graph after the fact may be confusing without the context of a lecture.
Follow the weekly schedule and stay on top of your assignments.
It is your responsibility to get to a computer to complete your work on time. Go to school, your local library, or a friend’s house if your computer crashes or your Internet goes down. Please do not contact me for extra time on assignments. You have options so I strongly urge you not to wait until the last minute to do your work.
Course Syllabus
The course syllabus (see "Syllabus" in left menu) contains important information about class procedures, due dates, grading policies, etc. It's a guideline for what you can expect of me and what I expect of you throughout the term.
Student Activities:
In order to achieve the student learning outcomes you will be evaluated through the following:
- Exams and Homework: To assess general knowledge of course material and critical thinking skills.
Time Commitment
Time to complete each module may vary from week to week. If you want to get the most out of the materials presented and earn the best grade you can, you should plan to spend at least 7-8 hours on the reading, assignments and lectures each week.

Tutoring/office hours: by arrangement.
Email: rstrauch@santarosa.edu
Cell: 707-921-9679
Please make sure you identify yourself as a student if you call, text, or email so that I do not think you are trying to sell me something or scam me.
If you need to contact a tutor when I am unavailable, tutors are available in the tutorial center. Please note that some of the handouts and material I cover outside the textbook and some tutors - especially student tutors - may not be familiar with the material. In general, try to see me first.
