Student Academic Standing Language Feedback
Help us improve the language used at SRJC for Academic "Probation" and "Dismissal".
We are working to improve this language for students. We want it to feel less punitive, and not linked to the criminal justice system. We hope the new wording encourages students to seek support on campus, stay, and finish what they came here to do. Right now, many students feel discouraged and demoralized by the label of academic probation or dismissal.
Not familiar with these terms? A little background: If your overall GPA drops below a 2.0 (C average) you will be notified that you are on "academic probation." If your overall GPA stays below 2.0 for 3 straight semesters, then the status changes from academic probation to academic dismissal.
All responses are anonymous. We don't ask for your name or any identifying information. We just want the students' input. It helps us advocate to change the language, for the better.
