Course Description:
This course focuses on the ways career development contributes to a satisfying and healthy life, as well as the development of a career plan. Emphasis is on interest and personality testing, values clarification, career information, research skills, individual skills assessment, decision making, and goal setting. Course also covers changing job trends and requirements, as well as factors related to the procurement and retention of employment.

Student Learning Outcomes
As a result of completing this course students will:
- Develop a career plan
- Evaluate potential effects of career choices on physiological, social and psychological well-being.
- Conduct research on potential majors and careers.
- Explain the steps involved in a decision making process.
- Implement appropriate resume writing and interview techniques.
Materials Required
1. Textbook: None Needed--- articles provided in class
2. Career Planning Tests: MBTI Career Form M and Strong/MBTI Combined
NOTE: Students must purchase two assessments: MBTI Career Form M and Strong/MBTI Combined, and the total per student is $41. You must call the Accounting Department at the Santa Rosa Campus at 707-527-4973 to make your payment over the phone by credit card, and let them know you are calling to pay for materials in Robin Eurgubian’s class. Be sure to ask for a receipt to be emailed to you so you can upload it to Canvas. You must pay by the due date in Canvas in order to receive instructions to take the assessments online. Then, you must take both assessments by the date assigned, for which you will have detailed directions on how to complete them. Your results will be uploaded to Canvas at the appropriate time.
Expectations
- It is the student’s responsibility to drop a class officially through your cubby; otherwise a failing grade will be assigned. Make sure to check the Calendar to verify important dates and deadlines for the semester: Link to Academic Calendar
- Students are expected to behave in a mature and appropriate manner. The Instructor reserves the right to censor any material deemed inappropriate and consequences will result in loss of points and possibly removal from the course. All students are expected to know the Student Conduct Code and adhere to it in this class:

Homework
Complete and submit all assignments on the scheduled due dates through Canvas. Any late work is due within one week of the assigned due date in order to receive partial credit. Points will be deducted for late assignments. Directions for completing assignments will be given throughout the semester.

Pre/Post-Tests = 5 points each for 10 points total

Les Brown Reaction Paper = 50 points
True Colors Self-Assessment on Eureka = 40 points
True Colors Research on Six Careers = 40 points
Strong/MBTI Research on Six Careers = 40 points
Eureka Report Values Assessment = 40 points
Informational Interview Written Report = 40 points
Imposter Syndrome Reflection = 20 points
Occupational Research Report = 50 points
Resume = 40 points
Growth Mindset/Emotional Intelligence Paper = 40 points
Gender Discrimination Video & Assignment = 40 points
Interview Questions Assignment = 20 points
How to Dress for an Interview = 40 points
Final: Career Essay = 0-100 points (this is not factored into the total grade; if you are satisfied with your grade at the end of the course, you can skip the final. Otherwise, you can earn up to 100 points to boost your overall grade.)

All of the assignment will be turned in online. As a result, you will be required to:

- Use the Internet
- Participate in online discussion forums
- Utilize basic word processing, such as MS Word or Google Docs (free)

- Assignments: All assignments are due no later than 11:55 p.m. PST on the date listed. Typed assignments need to be completed with a 12 point font, one inch margins, and double spaced. Directions for completing assignments will be given throughout the semester and listed in your Canvas course. Please save your documents as Microsoft Word or PDF attachments. For MAC users, save as PDF not PAGES files. You can do this for free through Google docs.
Important Dates & Deadlines: Students must observe the class deadlines found on their Schedule in their cubby. Students who fail to drop classes by the posted deadlines are responsible for all fees and could receive substandard grades.
