Contacting the Instructor

Being confused is a natural part of learning.  But it's important to address your confusion.  In my experience, a key to a successful online learning experience is how one problem solves.

Sometimes you'll be able to problem-solve on your own.  When you're reviewing practice examples, it's good to return to our textbook, online readings, and Online Office posts.  That may answer a question that arises as you practice.

However, it's also important to ask questions.  When you're confused by a concept or an example, I encourage you to reach out and ask me about it.  You can email me at maparicio@santarosa.edu .  Or you can send a Canvas message by clicking on the "Inbox" icon on the left of our class site.  These methods are good when you have one question.  Just paste the confusing passage or example into your message and ask me your question.  I'll respond within 24 hours, usually much sooner.

When you need more than a brief explanation, I recommend we arrange an in-person or Zoom-based "Office Visit."  Just contact me and request a meeting.  I'll respond within 24 hours, usually much faster.  This method is good when we need to clarify more than a concept or an example.  They're good for longer discussions, especially when a student feels overwhelmed.

What's most important is that you problem-solve whenever you're confused.  Learning isn't always easy.  It's sometimes even frustrating.  But, together, we can discover new worlds.

I look forward to meeting you,

Michael
