Introduction to Latin America
In this course, Latin America will be defined as the 12 countries of South America and the 7 countries of Central America and Mexico. While you will not be given a "map" exam on this region, it is expected you will know these countries and their locations.
Latin Americans share colonization by Spain and Portugal, which left the Spanish and Portuguese languages and Catholicism as major sources of unity. This region has large indigenous populations whose cultures have blended with the European cultures that followed them to the region. They share similar social and economic challenges and solutions.
