This course introduces the fundamentals of the discipline of art history with a focus on how to view and appreciate art in an increasingly diverse world. A methodological introduction will be followed with a global survey of art from a variety of media from the 16th century through contemporary times that highlights world-wide artistic trends and achievements. We will consider the historical, cultural, religious, and political contexts of a work of art as well as its production and reception.
