Surface Area to Volume Ratio

Biologists are obsessed with surface area to volume ratio!  This is because  the rate at which anything is absorbed or dissipated will be heavily influenced by this ratio.   Think about heat loss or gain: which posture indicates someone trying to keep all their heat in their body vs someone trying to cool down (lose more heat)?
